There are seven slots at ACNW. I take the Saturday night one off, kind of for recuperation and a nice dinner, and just to enjoy the vacation aspect of the trip. I like to play in at least one other slot. I'd like to make that two slots I play in this year (depending on what's offered, of course. No one else on my blogging list is talking their games up, so I'm not going to have too much pre-convention time to figure out what I want to play in, although if he does one, I want to play in an Epoch game.)
Sunday is traditionally my Katie Karnage serial. I have to get with Bolthy about what we want to do after last year's erm...boisterous game. What I have tentatively planned (see all the emphasis?) is a Superhero Noir adventure in Undershadow. Wearing a trenchcoat is worth points, but bonus points for fedoras. Also, characters are encouraged to do their own film noir style narration, ala "Whose Line is it Anyway?"
No, you don't get to vote on it. If we'd had these funky toys last year, I would never have Done The Thing With the Tentacles, now, would I've?
This is the "final tally." It includes both those with the highest "Try It" votes as well as the ones that _I_ am hyped about for one reason or another. Now I want you to vote ONLY on the ones that from the description alone (which will have changed slightly from the original) you would consider playing in at an AmberCon. That's the "Try It" vote. If you would absolutely just not be interested, do a "Try Again."
Helloa and Goodabye
[Title Subject to Change]
Papa Dworkin, old man of the Crossroads is called upon to create the junctions between worlds. To defend against the bad luck of Trump, one takes a sketch and throws it over his left shoulder into the light of the setting sun. Shrines to Florimel bring the worshipper luck in love and beauty. You are born a descendant of the old gods, and you are powerful with their influence. Still, where there is power, there are those who want a piece of it. Will these new gods prove as powerful as the old?
Knight and Day
The Four Kingdoms, Amber, Jade, Rebma, and the Kingdom of the Rose, have been split from each other since the breaking of the Patterns. As one of the last Knights of Reconciliation of your people, you find your world dissolving into nothingness. You met the others, once before, as if in a dream, and now, in flesh, you find you are your Kingdoms' last hope. Players must submit details of the prior adventure that "never happened," except in their character's dreams.
Who Spiked the Spikard?
[Title Subject to Change]
As Fiona and Mandor's students you are granted the opportunity to investigate newly discovered (or created) artefacts of great power. Who is Professor Delwin and why is he so incensed about your homework? And what is that squeaking noise down the hallway?
Tirs and Heirarchies
[Title Subject to Change]
In a thousand universes, the result is the same: a trip right into the Abyss. Tonight, however, is different. Tonight, your will has a way of changing the forces, and you get your opportunity to return, provided you are the last Brand or Deirdre left standing. You are Brand...or you are Deirdre (but then again, so is everyone else.) And you'd better be convincing or the new Queen of the Tir won't grant you life.
The Green Death
Based off the Bête Noire Letter Game. "One morning Llewella wakes up dead, Morganthe finds herself alive, and Lir's bones are restless. The zombie minions of the crazy, necromantic sea witch, Moire, are beginning to advance on Amber. Can you find a cure before both kingdoms fall prey to...the Green Death?"
(OK, so I didn't change this one.)
Four Kings, Ace High
Martin, Merlin, Rinaldo, and Random gather for a poker game. Who cheats? Who folds? What are they bidding? ...and what are their women up to? A LARP for 4-10 people.
Posted by Meera at May 21, 2002 04:10 PMNobody should play my con games. I'm proud of my campaign. My con games (all two of them: I've only ever GM'd two con games, in 18 years!), I consider myself lucky to get through. I'm just not comfortable with the format.
Anyhow, the now-traditional comments, in slightly-different format. I voted as well, of course:
If I saw all of these games on the ACNW list (and, well, I expect that I will see most of them), given that I try to get a wide spread of GM's at any given Con:
I'd definitely sign up for "Four Kings, Ace High," unless it conflicted with my GM slot or I saw a game description in that time slot that made me imagine God Himself Coming Down From Heaven and Saying, "Mike, This Sounds Like Your Ideal Game."
If, for whatever reason, I couldn't get into Four Kings, Ace High, I'd probably sign up for Helloa and Goodabye, and I'd be tempted to sign up for it, at least as a second or third choice, even if I did sign up for Four Kings.
If, on the other hand, I were looking at these at seperate Cons, or from some other perspective where I wasn't worried about getting the same GM over and over again...
Four Kings, Ace High and Helloa and Goodabye would probably get 1st Choice picks.
Tirs and Heirarchies might get a 1st Choice pick, or a 2nd Choice.
Knight & Day and The Green Death would probably end up being 2nd Choice picks.
Posted by Epoch at May 22, 2002 11:32 AMI figure I should probably mention my preferences as well...
As a GM, the two hardest to run would be "Four Kings" and "Tirs and Heirarchies." I'd probably draft someone as co-GM on them one way or another. I'm leaning towards "Four Kings" just because it sounds like a good basic concept that allowed people to enjoy themselves.
Tirs is an old concept for the LintKing and I. It would take some careful design without coming out like a standard throne war.
The Green Death sounds like fun, especially if I can work the House of the Dead soundtrack into it somehow...
I am just in love with Helloa. I've finished up my voodoo/Aztec Amber game set-up I was working on with ACW, and this is probably the closest it will ever come to being run.
Who Spiked is based off the Jackie Chan Adventures game sessions I'm designing. It seems trivial to translate it into Amber and is a fun romp.
Knight and Day is likely to be interesting, but fairly standard con fare.
No demons or apocalyptic games this year? Hmmmm.
